EXABYTE INNOVATES IN 8-MM TAPE STORAGE
Exabyte Corp. of Boulder, Colo. the only purveyor of 8-mm
tape drives began shipping its Mammoth 8mm Tape Drive.
Available immediately, Mammoth stores 40 gigabytes of data at 21 gigabytes
per hour, which triples the storage capacity and increases by six times
the performance of Exabyte's current generation 8mm drive technology.
Mammoth is the fastest tape drive in its class, enabling users to back
up twice as much data in an hour as its closest competitor.
Other announcements included availability of Mammoth in Exabyte’s
line of 8mm tape libraries; the introduction of a new 8mm tape library
for the midrange market; shipment of new AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated)
Exatape for use with Mammoth; and agreements with eight distributors
who will sell Exabyte’s recently introduced Eagle minicartridge
products into the desktop marketplace.
