GATEWAY 2000 DIMENSION COMBINATION PC AND TV

Destination is a PC-TV convergence product from Gateway 2000 of North Sioux City, S.D. The key components include the following: touchpad-equipped wireless keyboard and a wireless Field Mouse, Big screen VGA monitor, video card containing the MediaStream chipset from Brooktree Corp., San Diego, Calif., and hi-fi wavetable sound card for integration with home stereo systems.

VGA display was used because resolution looks best on the big screen with larger fonts for viewing at a longer distance. The system also has three PCI bus slots, two ISA and one shared bus slot, as well as the standard serial and parallel ports.
The system is compatible with consumer electronics components such as VCRs, stereo systems, and laser disk players. The system can accept video feeds from cable television systems, traditional antennas or other video devices. Audio signals from the system can be channeled through home stereo systems to offer surround sound capability.

To make the system easy to use, Destination comes with Microsoft Windows 95 SmartTV software from Harman Interactive, which includes the electronic TV Guide that enables users to review and select television programs.

Intercast, Digital Video Disk, and video teleconferencing are among the emerging technologies Gateway expects the system to support.
